Frequently Asked Questions |
What do I need to bring when I check out my library loaner laptop? The only thing you need to bring is a picture ID. Please have the physical ID on you. If your friend, family, or significant other are picking up for you, you must call ahead of time. We need the name of the person picking up, and the person picking up needs a picture of your photo ID. We need your photo ID to confirm that we are giving the laptop to the correct person. Checking out a laptop from the library is free! We do not charge late fines if the item is returned late. We do charge if the laptop is damaged and requires repair. We also bill the item's replacement cost if the item goes into "Lost" status. However, this fee goes away once the item is returned. Laptops are checked out to you for 1 semester. The due date is 3 business days after the last day of finals week. Feel free to contact us if you've forgotten. It should also be on your check-out receipt that was emailed to your KCTCS email upon check-out. You are able to renew if you are enrolled in the next consecutive semester. If you withdraw from all classes during the semester, you must return your laptop as you no longer meet the requirements to check out the device. Please bring it at your soonest convenience to the BCTC Library, or your closest BCTC Campus. We perform enrollment checks throughout the semester, so you may receive an email prompting you to return the device if you are no longer enrolled in the current semester. You will use your KCTCS email and password to log in to the laptop. You use this log-in for MyPath as well. Please bring the wrong charger to the Newtown Library and we will switch you out. OR call us and we'll send one to your closest BCTC campus. You must have the wrong charger with you to trade for the correct one. Yes, but it is only available for 1 day. You must return it before you leave. Please bring it to the library / your closest BCTC campus as soon possible. If you leave the damage for a long time, it may cause more damage in other areas. If we have an extra loaner laptop, we will place this with you while your other device is being repaired. Our IT department assesses a library loaner laptop's damage first. Sometimes, IT is able to fix the laptop with spare parts. If this is the case then the repair is free. If IT does not have the spare part, it goes to the manufacturer and they bill us for the repair. The repair cost never exceeds the full replacement cost. For example, some screen replacements cost around $150 for repair. If IT determines that the laptop is damaged beyond repair, then the full replacement cost is billed. Please call or respond to the pick-up email as soon as possible. We can extend the pick-up date if needed. We cannot extend the pick-up date after the final pick-up day has passed. Laptops are immediately passed on to the next user waiting. You will need to fill out the loaner laptop request form again. You can find the form here, or in the sidebar on this page. We can provide a 1 week extension for returning the laptop. Afterwards, this will go into "Lost" status in our system. Please let us know as soon as you can if this is the case. Firstly, thank you for returning it! You need to have both the laptop and charger returned to remove the hold. When laptops are returned, we make sure the device turns on. Other than that, once the device is returned, we remove the block and bill from your Library account, and we remove the fee and hold from PeopleSoft. If you are enrolled in the next semester, then yes, you can renew your device. You can call or email around the end of the semester to enroll. If you are not enrolled in the next semester, then no, you must return the laptop |
