Manga at the Newtown Library

These manga series are shelved in the Graphic Novel section at the Newtown Campus library. If you attend BCTC but cannot get to Newtown, don't worry. You can request whichever title you're looking for and we can send the title to Leestown, Winchester, Danville, Lawrenceburg, or Georgetown for you to pick up. Manga are interspersed among graphic novels for now and are organized by series title.

How to read manga

Manga is a Japanese graphic novel and is most often read from right to left, more specifically from the upper right to the lower left. What is traditionally the back cover for English books is the front cover in manga. You'll begin there. Sometimes there is a table of contents and an introduction page followed by the chapters. At the end there may be a sneak preview of the next volume, a preview for a different series, or an author's note. Use the graphic below to help you envision how reading from right to left works. Similarly to an English comic book, you move through the page in sections, in this example there are 3 rows of panels, you will move from right to left through the top panel, then jump down to the second row of panels.

If you have any other questions on manga, please see our front circulation desk or call the Newtown Library. We are happy to help!
